The number of solid organ transplant recipients is increasing worldwide every year, which has meant a significant improvement of recipient's survival and quality of life. To prevent graft rejection, patients require long-term immunosuppression, which is responsible for their increased risk of neoplastic and infectious diseases.
The first three chapters discuss immunosuppressive regimens and the prevalence of dermatoses, while the other chapters approach the main diseases didactically, providing a large number of illustrations.
Walmar Roncalli P. de Oliveira, MD, PhD, is a medical assistant and dermatologist at the Medical College of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He is responsible for the Organ Transplant Recipient and Sexually Transmitted Infection units at the Department of Dermatology at the University of São Paulo. He is a member of the SCOPE group (Skin Care in Organ transplant Patients, Europe) and ITSCC (International Transplant Skin Cancer Collaborative, USA). He is also reviewer for various dermatological journals.
Carla Ferrándiz-Pulido, MD, PhD, is a consultant Dermatologist at the Department of Dermatology from Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona, Spain. She is responsible for the management of high-risk patients with non-melanoma skin cancer, especially solid-organ transplant recipients. She is also an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, a board member of the SCOPE group (Skin Care in Organ transplant Patients, Europe), a frequent reviewer for various international peer-review dermatology journals, an editorial board member of the journal Actas Dermosifiliográficas and chief editor of the continual medical education journal Piel. Her research focuses on the pathogenesis of skin cancer.
