There are so many bilinguals across the world and some of which include; English and Spanish bilinguals, Chinese and Japanese just to mention but a few. Such people have different ways in which they interact with the communities they live in both socially and economically. As Ngai (2002) points out a child learning a second language is more effective in communication, more so when the effective language is grouped with instructions in a particular language. Therefore it can be stated that practical techniques and acquisition for supporting languages has helped a lot of people to embrace how valuable bilingual is. However, despite the fact that there are many advantages of being bilingual, there are disadvantages the bilingual people face in societies. This paper thus aims at critically reviewing the advantages and the disadvantages of being bilingual.
