The viewpoint of literature and art has a profound influence on the development of theories of Chinese operas of later ages. The Han and Tang Dynasties and the Northern Song Dynasty and Southern Song Dynasty is not only the brewing period before the prosperity of Chinese operas, but also the primary stage of the development of China's ancient theories of Chinese operas. In the Yuan Dynasty, zaju sprung up in an all-around way. Theories of Chinese operas also had a qualitative leap. A batch of works with the subject of opera studies appeared. In the turning of Yuan and Ming Dynasties, southern operas sprung up. During the reign of Emperor Jiajing and Emperor Longqing, theories of Chinese operas developed in contention in an all-around way. New theories and research methods also began to appear. The book analyzes and studies the above stages of China's ancient theories of Chinese operas on the basis of the development history of Chinese operas to highlight the development process and theoretical characteristics of theories of Chinese operas.
