For nearly a decade, Chinese art education has added a doctorate in art practice to try to cultivate scholar type artists. The first to recruit practice doctorate graduate students is the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, and the next is The China Academy of Art, Zhejiang and Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. The latter two have a considerable size of recruitment. Before the Central Academy of Fine Arts, as the only Higher Academy of Fine Arts directly subordinate to the Ministry of Education makes this decision, the academic board has repeatedly discussed and studied the enrollment of doctoral students of practice, how to select tutors to recruit doctoral students, the formulation of relevant training plans and other questions. One of the important contents is what measures should be taken to help doctoral students make breakthroughs in art practice during study period, and get corresponding research results in academic field. The college committee decides to set two tutorial system for the doctoral students of practice, that is, one professor of practice major (Chinese painting, oil painting, engraving, sculpture) and one professor studying historical theory, respectively taking charge of the guidance of artistic creation and writing of doctoral thesis.
