He begins to uncover a web of deceit, half-truths and rumour that entangles all concerned, and from which no one emerges unscathed. As the facts emerge the real story proves to be a sad catalogue of 'clerical errors and secular lies' that will eventually change the lives of everyone concerned, wreck relationships and split the community into opposing factions forever.
