Produktinformationen zu „Come Sit Next to Me (ePub)“
Come Sit Next to Me takes the reader on the journey of a lifetime, directly to the ancient Silk Road of Central Asia. Join the author during every stage of preparation, experience every culture shock, and gain a real sense of what isolation can feel like living in a traditional, rural Muslim community. Robert OQuinns style of writing draws the reader into the narrative with the authors descriptive prose and detailed accounts. His job was to find a way to teach English in a mountain village located next to the border of China. The winters were long and brutal, and the cultural challenges were endless, but he would ultimately learn the true essence of Kyrgyz hospitality.
Autoren-Porträt von Robert O’Quinn
Dr. Robert O’Quinn grew up in a small town in south Georgia. Upon graduating from high school, his only goal was to become a stock boy at the grocery store where he was bagging groceries. Thanks to a pivotal meeting one afternoon at work and the life-changing inspiration of a college professor, he became the first American to ever live in the mountain village of At-Bashi, Kyrgyzstan. After completing his Peace Corps service, he married his wife on the beach of Texel Island in the Netherlands. Upon the couple’s return to the United States, they moved to the greater DC metro area, where Robert completed his PhD in sociology at American University. He is currently employed as an adjunct sociology professor at the Crystal City, Virginia, campus of DeVry University and as a program manager for Fairfax County.
