María Martha Calvo nació en Lima, Perú. Descendiente de una larga estirpe de abogados y escritores, su vida siempre ha estado ligada al arte y las letras.
Cuando la insania del terrorismo hizo presa de su país, su esposo y ella decidieron emigrar a Canadá, donde residen desde 1992 con su familia.
Hace unos años las dificultades de otras épocas, que todo nuevo inmigrante debe enfrentar y limitaron en gran medida su producción intelectual, dejaron de existir, permitiéndole dedicarse a tiempo completo a la literatura y la pintura.
Ha producido cuatro novelas. Ciudad Madre es su primera publicación.
