I was born in time to experience every year of the depression and was thankful when I was inducted into the navy at a very early age. Upon discharge, I took advantage of a government retraining scheme and qualified as an engineer which allowed me to be employed in my own country, and overseas, on major projects.I proved to be pretty much a failure as a husband and father while excelling as an engineer.
I have never understood money or the need to hoard it and my lifestyle and domestic ventures assured that I ended up with so little I have no need to stress about it. Enjoying the work I was involved in, I continued until I realised I was over 75 years of age so I redirected my interests to painting and writing books.
I am a good listener, and as long as people love talking about themselves, there will always be another book.
I have decided to live to the age of 120, simply to keep the pressure on myself. I have no other ambitions.
