"The book is essentially a retelling of the biblical Exodus, as seen by the Egyptians..." — KIRKUS REVIEWS
The epic of family drama, violent conflict and vaulting ambition set around events that might have been the historical Exodus.
Ancient Egypt, Kemet, 1650 B.C. The Amu, fierce Semitic warriors, invade and ruthlessly exploit the country. For the next hundred years, each native uprising is crushed, but at a moment of crisis, the deposed royals and nobles put aside their differences and begin to work together. The Great Prince of the South opens with Ahmose, a minor prince from South Kemet Kingdom, inheriting the throne and convincing his rival, Prince Naphiret, to join him in an uprising against the foreigners. Together, they start the fight for their people, for freedom and for honor. A determined Semitic prince, Mose rallies his forces and tries to unite the fractured Amu factions to create a formidable army. But the Prince of the South is undeterred. An audacious commander, he intercepts the fleet, dispatched to support Prince Mose, assaults the stunned enemy and crushes them. This monumental defeat cements the reputation of Ahmose as a great military leader and finally convinces his entire nation to take up arms. Mose realizes he must find another way to defeat his enemy.
Ancient History had been a passion since childhood, so writing a historical novel in her spare time about Ancient Egypt seemed a good idea. King Ahmose with his vast military campaign was not the central figure at first; she wanted to focus on his wife, Nefertari. As charismatic as the female character was, Lana soon discovered that military tactics, training and combat was her real interest and so the focus of the book became the account of Ahmose's brilliant feats as a military commander. As she did further research into the history of Ahmose's foes, she realized that the story of their defeat by the Egyptians was in fact a more complete version, or backstory, of the Bible's Book of Exodus. Historians have been saying the same thing for decades, but the general public has remained unaware of this dramatic story. As she continued her research, the facts were so overwhelming, Lana decided to rewrite her story and redevelop the plot again to reflect what she had learned.
She currently lives in Toronto with her little daughter Theia, planning to resume a career in scientific research after her maternity leave, while writing in her spare time.
