Autoren-Porträt von Jana Chapman, Kerri Hamblin, Martie Kraus, Valayre May
We have been cooking, sharing recipes, and catering family events for years. Our mother was our first cooking teacher. She made most everything we ate – from bread to meatloaf. We ate every homemade Sunday dinner at our kitchen table for over twenty years. We have made food for hundreds of people in our lifetimes. We have collected, tasted, baked, and perfected hundreds of recipes which we have used to feed, entertain, console, and celebrate hundreds of events. We have enjoyed cooking for neighbors, friends, weddings, and funerals. If we are together, there is food. It is always plentiful and usually good – with only a few mishaps that usually include distracted teenagers! We grew up in what was a small farming community where everyone knew everyone else. The nearest grocery store was a 30 minute drive and going out to dinner was a luxury we rarely indulged in. Although we have all moved from our small town, most of us are not far away. Marti e, the oldest and most experienced cook, has 7 children and 8 grandchildren. She teaches high school math and lives in Gilbert, Arizona. Valayne, the most adventurous cook, has 5 children. She teaches high school English and lives in Damascus, Maryland. Kerri, the least likely to cook, has 4 children and two grandchildren. She lives in Mesa, Arizona. Jana, the best gelatin cook, has 4 children and lives in Queen Creek, Arizona. Our mother lives in Lakeside, Arizona where she continues to try new recipes. She never felt any of us were very talented and all she could pass on to her girls was cooking and sewing. Both have served us well. We continue to collect and try new recipes. Feel free to send us your favorite to try. Maybe it will end up in our next cookbook.
