In the next century, religious missionaries recorded their changing society as it faced the tide of immigration flooding into their homelands. Without their written information, this book could never have been completed.

The author was a dedicated historian of the Lenape- Delaware Indian culture that inhabited the Delaware Valley in primitive times. A wildlife artist and avocational archaeologist, who spent 58 years exploring the forest in areas of southern New Jersey, discovering 158 archaeological sites and excavating 87. His foremost interest was the study and restoration of native ceramics. He was director of the Cumberland County Prehistorical Museum in Greenwich, New Jersey. His descriptive analogy is not infused with professional jargon, rather language acceptable to the general public. It is a tribute to the only race in North America, who participated in prehistory and history.
