Bibliophiles or book lovers always have the habit of repackaging their books for protection as well as drawing and writing in books. Though Sun Li was no exception, he developed words on the book cover into a succinct and meaningful literary form containing everything in a free way, which was his original creation breaking a new path. After the Cultural Revolution, though Sun Li was set free from the "e;cowshed"e; and the "e;cadre school"e;, he was unable to publish his articles normally. Therefore, he used wastepaper to repackage his old books returned and wrote pieces of words on the book cover. Later, such words were sorted out and published, becoming a unique literary form in the new period. According to critics, it is a path to silence and rehabilitation built by Sun Li in the thorns, a boat riding the winds and waves manufactured by Sun Li for himself, and also his working platform full of cultural meaning created by Sun Li in the corrupted world. In 1998, Front Cover edited by Liu Zongwu was published by Shandong Pictorial Publishing House and was popular among lots of readers and scholars studying Sun Li. This book is the revised version.
