The stories Juanita wrote are based on her true experiences with different children, although the names have been changed for the stories.
She first swam with the dolphins and whales while on vacation from her job as the anchor and host of a medical television show at Telemundo and a host of a show in Univision Radio. For several years, she observed their behavior and took the opportunity to interview a number of scientists, veterinarians, trainers, and owners of aquariums in order to understand them. During her research on dolphins and whales, she learned of the health benefits and overall improvement in their wellbeing that children receive through dolphin-assisted therapy. It presents a new and alternative way of healing that may just be the answer to our challenges, along with presenting us with an amazing experience.
Sylvia was born and raised in Mexico City and now makes her home in the Chicago, Illinois, area; she travels to Mexico often to assist in the dolphin-therapy process.
