My name is Sarah Turner, and like many Americans, I am divorced. I have been divorced for seven years, but am still recovering emotionally and financially from the experience. I wrote this book with the intention of helping people going through a divorce ensure that their partner is not hiding any money from them.

Like many women, I was not aware of my family's financial situation. Even though I worked (and raised two lovely children), my husband was in charge of our finances. This made sense to me because I not only trusted him, but he was an experienced businessman and I assumed he would be better suited to plan for our financial future. I was right in assuming that he was more financially savvy than me; unfortunately, he used this knowledge to hide hundreds of thousands of dollars during our divorce and start a life with his mistress.

I am not a divorce lawyer or a forensic accountant, but after working with many of these professionals for over two years to recover hidden assets, I feel that I am qualified to explain some of the methods that my husband, and many others, used to hide money during a divorce.

The following methods were used in an attempt to cheat me out of money during our divorce. While I was lucky enough to have parents who could afford the best lawyers and forensic accountants, many women can't, and many of these illegal methods are successfully used by spouses during divorce proceedings. In fact, my forensic accountant estimated that men who are the primary breadwinner, employ at least one of these methods in over 50% of divorces, often successfully.
