The purpose of this book is to present a "e;progress report"e; on the development of cluster industry, which is based on the study of 8 cases in Asia and Africa. What we want to emphasize is that in the development model of the Asian and African cases, there are more similarities than differences. What is particularly encouraging is that we found that the industry of leather shoes in Ethiopia not only developed rapidly like those in East Asia but also followed the "e;East Asian model of industrial development"e; as we mentioned. In this mode, successful entrepreneurs have gained innovation based on the technology and management knowledge transferred abroad. This means that if we provide the right knowledge for potential entrepreneurs of industrial clusters, including the development of a stagnant industrial cluster in sub Saharan Africa, these clusters are likely to begin to develop.
