Tell Tale:
Is a tale of a constructed insanity.
It is a tale of dealing with an utterly dysfunctional family.
It is a tale of survival and the birth of consciousness.
It's about being true to one's inner self against the grain of commercialism and brainwashing.
It starts off in surreal insanity and ends in a surreal fantasy.
It is based on exaggerated fact toned down to seem absolutely normal.
It is a story of the birth of alternative counterculture in South Africa.
It is a story of an abhorrence of apartheid and the stupidity of the apartheid regime.
It is a courageous tale of dancing with life on the edge of experience.
It is about sexuality, the taboos.
It was written furiously, excitedly, without regret or self pity.
It invents words.
It is unapologetic.
It is an autobiography disguised as a novel: without the character of Ampelby the tale could never have been written.
