He could even discard all other interests for the pursuit of legal science. It took Holmes 49 years to serve in the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and the Supreme Court of the USA. That is unprecedented. Holmes enjoyed a long life. He passed away at 93, when almost all his contemporaries had died. After his death, he was buried in the Arlington Cemetery, accompanied with the chief judges of the Supreme Court of the USA at that time.
