K. N. Siva Subramanian, M.D. is a Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He obtained his M.B.B.S. (M.D.) degree from Madras University in 1969 and is board certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He has been Chief of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Director of Nurseries at Georgetown University Hospital since 1981. He is currently Chair of the Georgetown University Hospital Committee on Bioethics. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, the International Society for Trace Element Research in Humans, the Society for Bioethics Consultation, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, and the American College of Nutrition. He is listed in the Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World. He has published over 40 articles and books, presented numerous lectures nationally and internationally, and has trained over 40 fellows in neonatal/perinatal medicine. His current interests are in infant mortality reduction, bioethics-decision making in critical care nursery, and trace element metabolism in newborn infants. Meryl E. Wastney, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, D.C. She graduated with a B.Ag.Sc. (1st Class Honors) in 1976 and a Ph.D. in 1980 from Lincoln College, University of Canterbury, New Zealand. She was a Fogarty Fellow in the Laboratory of Mathematical Biology, NCI, NIH, Bethesda, MD for 3 years and joined the Department of Pediatrics at Georgetown University in 1983. She is a member of the American Institute of Nutrition, the American Institute of Clinical Nutrition, the International Society for Trace Element Research in Humans, and a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. She was the recipient of the W.O. Rennie Memorial Prize, the Lincoln Senior
