This is an educational children's picture book that has been recorded onto a CD. This book can be used as a teaching tool to help children to say the letter "L" sound correctly. The colorful illustrations are whimsical and they tend to depict the frustrations that a child experiences when they are not understood by other people. Lizzy Lizard attempts to learn from her friends how to say the "L" sound correctly because her friends think that she is Wizzy Wizard instead of Lizzy Lizard. When Lizzy gets angry from the teasing from her friends she goes into the woods and accidentally comes into contact with some tree sap. The sap causes her tongue to stick to the roof of her mouth. She realizes that this is what her friends had been trying to tell her how to say the letter "L" sound. She finally says her name correctly and now she is Lizzy Lizard instead of Wizzy Wizard.
I am a speech therapist with a master's degree in Communication disorders. I have worked as a speech therapist in the school system for 23 years. I currently work in an elementary school where I have worked for the last 14 years. Throughout these years I have worked with children whose speech was very difficult to understand. I have seen the hurt and frustration that children experience when their parents. acquaintances, and peers do not understand them. I have also seen the teasing that occurs when someone is not understood and it can be very embarassing for the child when no one understands their name.
Children love to look and read picture books and I hope to help them to say their letter sounds correctly through the world of books.
I also love to read, travel, hike and walk on the beack with my dog Cashew.
I began my writing through the Institute of Children's Literature. I am a member of The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
