The protagonist, Michael Duarte, suffers from PTSD but doesnt know it. All he knows is that he suffers from nightmares and headaches and guilt over the loss of his friend. He cant maintain a relationship with anyone for very long, leading to a string of relationships. In a series of flashbacks, Duarte looks back at his life.

The author is a native of Los Angeles, California. He is a graduate of Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, and the University of San Francisco. He was a newspaper reporter for almost thirty years and is a US navy veteran, serving as a diver and underwater photographer. He retired after twenty-six years of service. He lives in Oxnard, California.
