The book presents a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding mechanisms regulating the formation of mineral in vertebrate skeletal and dental tissues. The focus of the book is directed toward the mineralization process, an evolutionarily conserved system in which cells synthesize a complex and unique extracellular matrix into which mineral is deposited. William Landis, B.S., S.M., Ph.D., is adjunct full professor in both the School of Dentistry at the University of California at San Francisco, San Francisco, CA, and the Division of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron, Akron, OH. He holds a bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, and master's and doctoral degrees in Biology and Biophysics, respectively, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA. He has taught and conducted basic and clinical science
