Jennifer Jackson is the chief storyteller at "Start with Stories." For over twenty years, Jen has been using stories to teach parents and students of all ages both in and out of the classroom. She began telling stories with her own children to get them into bed. Eventually, Jen's tales morphed into a teaching career incorporating stories to teach a variety of skills to children of all levels. Jen is a sought-after educational consultant and literacy coach. Her unconventional teaching career has given her insights that resonate with a variety of students, both with and without learning difficulties. Her method is simple and fun, and the desire to share her skills-based approach is the reason she has published this book. Jen's passions include storytelling, reading, cooking, and laughing with friends and family. She lives in the majestic Pacific Northwest with her husband and a few quirky pets who love bacon and meatballs..
Steve Yeates, the illustrator and designer of Start with Stories's first book, Meet Dash, has a varied background combining education and graphic arts. In his first career he taught high school Geography, sometimes using slides he took every summer while wending with friends through Europe or the west coast by bicycle. A radical mid-life career change led to his design education at Ryerson University in Toronto. By way of work in film and television his career morphed and he became a freelance graphic artist. His passions include architectural preservation, fitness, modern design, anything urban. Don't get him started on the environment. All of these interests and experiences inform his work in one way or another. Steve lives with his partner and scheming cat in the leafy enclave of Cabbagetown in Toronto.
