Griz was in charge of youth camp property with the Wichita Girl Scouts for 27 years. During part of those years he was a volunteer firefighter and a substitute teacher for various rural schools in the area of Wichita KS. While there he also obtained his associates and bachelor degrees and in 1999 he began to write a light humor column for various newspapers and his first book which was a memoir. Then the telepathic dog idea came to him and Oro, The Incredible Dog story began and consists of four books that have been published.
