Eventually, he made his own way through a combination of so-called menial jobs, though usually a city's or a town's lifeblood, and schooling and a good dose of insight and optimism of the life he created for himself and his family.

Out of Quisqueya is a story of grit, hope and the promise of America that immigrants cling to. It's both the author's journey and a universal immigrant story. This memoir tells of the trials and triumphs of human resilience when dealing with a daunting existence.

Autoren-Porträt von Milliardaire Syverain M. D.

Milliardaire Syverain, M.D., earned his B.S. at Northeastern University in Boston, and his M.D. at Stanford University School of Medicine in California. Dr. Syverain is a recipient of the American Collegiate Poets awards. He is a published poet for The Stanford Journal of Black Expression. He taught SWOPSI (Student Workshops on Political and Social Issues) at Stanford University. He wrote for the Northeastern News and The Stanford Daily. He was born in Haiti and immigrated to the United States as a teenager. He lives in Palo Alto with his wife and works as a physician in Silicon Valley. They volunteer with the Horeb Seventh Day Adventist Church of Novato and the Haitian American Community Church of Silicon Valley and work with the Haitian refugees of Northern California. In 2018, they created a financial scholarship for first-generation students in the health sciences at Northeastern University. They also founded the nonprofit organization Friends and Children of Haiti Foundation and funded a hospital in the author grandparents' hometown. Most summers, they and their son go to Haiti providing free healthcare and scholarships for needy students and teaching English as a second language.
