Community police frequently encounter people with mental health, and these interactions are often sensitive and demanding, yet despite this, surprisingly scant attention has been given to the development of empirically tested and established best practice approaches to managing this important aspect of police work. This book was originally published as a special issue of Police Practice and Research: An International Journal.
Duncan Chappell is a lawyer and criminologist, is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Sydney, Australia and a Conjoint Professor in the School of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Australia. He is the immediate past President of the New South Wales Mental Health Review Tribunal, and a past Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology.
