This seminar paper contains a strategic and competitive analysis of the Swiss TV broadcasting industry. Starting with the definition of the term broadcasting in which the author explains that he understands it as the actual and technical distribution of TV contents to customers' households, he provides an overview on the key figures and the structure of the Swiss TV broadcasting market, showing that, due to a very fragmented market with locally specialized cable providers, there exist mainly cable providers, telephone carriers and suppliers of Satellite TV devices within the market. The author especially highlights the dominant market position if the Swiss firms Cablecom and Swisscom. After this, the author provides a detailed analysis of the competitive and strategic situation of the main players within the Swiss TV market, based on Michael E. Porters '5 forces framework' from 1980. The author concludes that the overall competitive market situation can be described as insulated, but hard, mainly caused by strong barriers to entry and a cut-throat competition within the industry itself.
