The purpose of this book is to present optimization techniques through MATLAB. It begins by introducing the MATLAB environment and the algebraic elements necessary for optimization tasks, as well as the structure of MATLAB programming. These tasks are introduced sequentially in order of technical difficulty as the topics progress. The main part of the book is devoted to the MATAB Optimization Toolbox . optimization Toolbox includes algorithms for solving linear programming problems, nonlinear least squares with bounds, nonlinear minimization without constraints, nonlinear minimization with bounds constraints, nonlinear minimization with linear equalities, nonlinear equation solving system, quadratic minimization with constraints limits, square minimization with linear equalities, and linear least squares with limit constraints. Large-scale methods are also available for some quadratic programming formulations and nonlinear objectives with bounds constraints or linear equality constraints. A wide variety of exercises are presented illustrating such important techniques as linear programming, quadratic programming, nonlinear least squares, and solving nonlinear equations. The routines that put into practice the most widely used methods to perform minimization and maximization are extended with examples .
