Besides a detailed discussion of lung physiology after laryngectomy, the mechanism of function of heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs) is explained in a structured manner. The improvements that have been achieved through the systematic use of HMEs in laryngectomees are described based on the authors' own experience and a review of the current literature. Great importance has been attached to a clear, didactic organisation, which is underscored by the large number of diagrams and tables. Two chapters are also devoted to practical application and provide tips that can improve patient compliance.
This book not only discusses the current state of knowledge but is a practice-orientated guide for the interested user.
