Three generations of women navigate the trials of love in all its forms in this poetic and sensitive novel set in Southwestern Montana.
At thirty-four, Tatum is haunted by past relationships that keep her from opening up to new ones. At sixty-two, Geneva is torn between her passion for life and her commitment to her institutionalized husband. Living together in Helena, Montana, both women are about to learn that there's more to love than they've ever known before.
When a local fry cook takes an interest in Tatum, she knows that she should give him a chance. But while she struggles to overcome her impulse to sabotage romantic connections, he wonders whether he should persist or move on. Meanwhile, Tatum suddenly finds herself mourning the sister who once tormented her-and in charge of her young niece, Rachel. Now, together, all four of them are on a path of discovery between longing and love.

Autoren-Porträt von K. M. Cholewa
K.M. Cholewa is a novelist, essayist, political writer, and ghost writer who lives in Montana. Her novel, Shaking Out the Dead, which takes place in southwest Montana, takes an uncompromising look at love and relationships and the stories people tell themselves and how then those stories, true or not, shape their ability to find the connections in life they hunger for. Reviewers have said "it touches on the grit of the heart" and called it "a bit vicious" and "raw" and "a thought provoking story [with] humor in some situations that made me chuckle and heartbreak that had me rereading passages." The language has been called "poetic." See more reviews on Amazon or at www.kmcholewa.com. You can also link from her website to her interview with Montana Public Radio. Cholewa has also worked as a political professional for 20 years. Her short story available at Amazon Direct Publishing draws from this experience. "Polar Bears: A Marijuana Story" is about the aftermath of the 2011 federal raids that leveled the medical marijuana market in Montana. Only one man, Dan Hoey, took on the Feds in court. Following the verdict, a blogger, a misguided activist, a greenhouse worker, and a juror must contend with the reality of the imperfection of their movement and how law, justice, and right and wrong work in an America on the inbetween. Based on true events, the characters in Polar Bears: A Marijuana Story express the complex motivations that drove thousands into the marijuana movement in the first decade of the 21st century. Cholewa has also written for Salon, AuthorsFirst, and The Progressive. Read more at www.kmcholewa.com
