Paula Pimenta nasceu em Belo Horizonte (MG). Desde criança apresentou aptidão para a escrita e por esse motivo prestou vestibular para Jornalismo, embora tenha se transferido para Publicidade após dois anos, curso no qual se formou pela PUC Minas. Após a faculdade, morou em Londres, onde estudou Escrita Criativa e escreveu seu primeiro romance, Fazendo meu filme. No Brasil, trabalhou com marketing e como professora de música, até se tornar escritora em tempo integral.Seu primeiro livro, a coletânea de poemas Confissão, foi lançado em 2001, com edição bancada pelo seu pai, mas o sucesso veio apenas em 2008, quando a divulgação boca-a-boca entre os fãs transformou o romance adolescente Fazendo meu filme num best-seller. As aventuras da jovem Estefânia Castelino Belluz, a Fani, personagem principal do livro, ganhou três sequências. Juntos, os quatro livros já venderam 500 mil exemplares. A série também já foi publicada na Espanha, em Portugal e toda a América Latina, e ganhou uma versão em quadrinhos, que já conta com dois volumes.
Paula foi escolhida pela revista Época como um dos 100 brasileiros mais influentes em 2012 e em 2014 foi a autora que mais vendeu livros no Brasil, segundo o ranking da PublishNews.
