The present study aims at examining Symbolism in Selected Novels of F. Scott . Fitzgerald : With Special Reference to The Great Gatsby. The study is divided into four chapters in addition to a conclusion .
Chapter One casts light on F.S. Fitzgerald's achievement as a romantic American novelist who possessed an ''acute consciousness of the irrevocable passage of everything into the past''. Chapter Two traces F.Scott. Fitzgerald's Contribution, Reputation and Influence. Fitzgeralad was the author who best represented the historical decade in America known as 'Jazz Age' Chapter Three explores F.Scott. Fitzgerald's idea of symbolism. First, it gives a general a historical and critical background of symbolism. Secondly, it gives a brief commentary on Fitzgerald's idea of symbolism. Chapter Four : examines symbolism in The Great Gatsby.
Finally, the study ends with conclusion that Fitzgerald's style is richly symbol. He uses symbols to complexly illustrate the major themes of his novels in general and in The Great Gatsby in particular.

Graduated from Yemen University (1995)(Sanaa,) and University of Khartoum(2000) and obtained Bachelor of Arts(English) Postgraduate diploma(English),.M.A in English from University of Khartoum(2000) English literature. And Ph.D. in English literature (2003). PhD in translation, Omdurman Islamic University 2014)Ali obtained his 3rd phd in linguistics in 2018. Ali worked as associate professor at Jazan University/ Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.Now, he is working at King Khalid University Ali has published 40 books and 20 Articles in national and international journals. Ali has translated 8 books,( The Art of Leadership by Dr. Gassem Alharabi , The Recruitment in Saudi Civil Service by Dr. Hamed Alshamery Jazan University At A Glance and The Light Track and Love( Arabic Metric Poetry) by Rahuf Almaubark). He published 36 books),. Ali is a member of Editing Board of Marco Institute Journals, International Journal of Applied Linguistics and English Literature ISSN 2200-3592 (Print) , ISSN 2200-3452 (Online),scholrlink journals and he is also a supervisor of 4 Ph.D. theses in English language.
