Come to sunny Australia for 10!
Who could resist such an invitation? Certainly not newly-weds Sandra and Geoff, who were just two of the thousands of migrants leaving the UK in the sixties and seventies to travel to the other side of the world to begin a new life in Australia, full of high hopes and expectations.
Follow their journey from Leicester in the Midlands to Perth in Western Australia, sailing from Southampton via Las Palmas in the Canary Islands and Cape Town in South Africa, and then overland from Perth to Melbourne in the State of Victoria.
Their journey began in Southampton in December 1967 - a 25-day voyage aboard the migrant ship Fairstar, with cramped sleeping quarters, but good food and entertainment, and the chance to make life-long friends.
Follow their struggle to find work and a permanent home to raise a family, while learning about the places they lived and the people they met in Australia. Share in their joys and sorrows, and read of the reasons for their difficult decision to return to Britain ten years later.

Autoren-Porträt von Sandra Burdett
The author, Sandra is a retired medical secretary. She enjoys visits to the cinema and theatre, amateur photography and reading - mainly autobiographies. In the sixties she and her new husband, Geoff, emigrated to Australia, travelling by ship to Perth, Western Australia. After a year in Perth they travelled overland (across the Nullarbor Plain) from Perth to Melbourne in Victoria, where they settled and had a family.Inspiration for this book was mainly to record a family and social history of this period, but also to give some insight for those interested in Australia and of immigration at that time, so different from today, but with similar problems.
Sandra and Geoff currently live in Leicester in the UK with their cat (Kitty) and two lovebirds (Bonnie and Clyde). Their daughter returned to Melbourne in 2000 to study at the University, where she met Matt. They married in 2008 and are now living in Northcote, a suburb of Melbourne with their Rag Doll cat (Wesley) and Staffordshire bull terrier, (Freddie).
