Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Berlin, language: English, abstract: This work aims at describing the production and sourcing strategies used within the Brazilian clothing industry in comparison to the strategies applied by German clothing companies. In this context, the main focus is on comparing the strategies: Full-package supply used by German and European clothing companies versus production within micro and small enterprises in Brazil.
The manufacturing situation in Germany and Brazil is described in detail and production and sourcing strategies used by German and Brazilian clothing companies are presented. The German clothing industry is driven by imports and does not show any significant domestic production. The Brazilian clothing industry, in contrast, is driven rather by domestic production, focusing on the internal market and having a low export orientation, because the manufacturing landscape is dominated by micro and small enterprises.
The next step is an evaluation of the potential of micro and small enterprises in Brazil to offer more value added services. The results are verified through field research study consisting of expert interviews and a survey with micro and small enterprises.
