Belgian artist, Maryse Alen, was born with a serious heart defect.
Undiagnosed for 25 years, it induced near-death experiences, taking her to an extraordinary realm of colour, intense freedom and love.
On being cured, this secret world was lost to her, but not the memory of its truth. A deep longing remained for the freedom and knowledge that it had shown her.
It would lead her to dreams, adventures and a creative method of painting that could only ever be one way: from the heart.
The book is illustrated with 21 reproductions of Maryse's paintings. To enjoy full colour images, simply read with a free ereader app on your laptop, tablet or phone.
Her book, "The Colours of Freedom," tells the story of this other reality, dealing with its loss, and the trials and adventures that led to rediscovery and a liberating way of painting for all.
She teaches painting courses in Andalucia, where she lives with writer Guy Arthur Simpson.
