Winston Churchill (1871–1947) achieved much success as a popular novelist at the turn of the nineteenth century. Born in St. Louis, he graduated in 1894 from Annapolis and pursued a career in which his interest in socio-political and religious issues could be realized. Among his books focusing on these themes are Coniston (1906), The Inside of the Cup (1913), and The Dwelling-Place of Light (1917).
