John Easterling, an experienced investigative reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times, covers the police blotter for the city. He stumbles upon a bizarre case of child murders and mutilations. Together, John and his colleagues delve into the dangerous world of demons, witches, trolls, goblins, and devils, coming face to face with Agrat bat Mahlat, Queen of Demons, fighting their way through five circles of Hell.
