Fred Chappell is North Carolina's Poet Laureate. A professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, he resides in Greensboro with his wife Susan.Fred Chappell is known for:
-his many novels including online editions of his earliest works It is Time, Lord, The Inkling, and Dagon and his newest print-only editions, one of which is Look Back All the Green Valley
-his collections of short stories such as Moments of Light, available from Boson Books in both the print and electronic editions;
-his books of poetry, The World Between the Eyes, River, Bloodfire, and Wind Mountain to name only four;
-and his many essays of literary criticism, including the collections A Way of Happening : Observations of Contemporary Poetry and Plow Naked : Selected Writings on Poetry.
Fred Chappell was born in Canton, North Carolina. He attended Duke University. He has received grants from the Rockefeller Foundation and the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He is a winner of the Bollingen Prize.
