Autoren-Porträt von Aryeh Shalev
Aryeh Shalev. After the Israeli War of Independence, General Shalev became a member, and later head, of the Israel delegations to the Mixed Armistice Commissions with Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon. He was appointed IDF spokesman in 1963 and served in that post until after the Six-Day War. From September 1967 until April 1974 General Shalev headed the Production and Estimate Department of the Military Intelligence Directorate. From 1974 to 1976 he served as military governor of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank). General Shalev retired from the IDF in September 1977, after 33 years of military service. In January 1978 he joined the staff of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University as a senior research fellow. From 1981 to 1984 he was deputy head of the Center. General Shalev's most recent books are The West Bank: Line of Defense (New York: Praeger, 1985) and Cooperation under the Shadow of Conflict: The Israeli-Syrian Armistice Regime, 1949-1955 (Tel Aviv: Ministry of Defense Publishing House, 1989; Hebrew).
