Henry Mackenzie (1745-1831), dubbed "Our Scottish Addison" by Sir Walter Scott was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to a successful physician. Besides this novel, he also wrote such classic novels and poems as The Man of the World, Letters of Brutus, and Ballad of “Duncan.”
