While serving in Virginia during the war, my great-great-grandfather, James Alston Carson, and two of his brothers died from injuries they received in the course of battle. As the story goes, each time my great-great-great-grandfather heard that one of his sons had died in battle, he sent the family servant, George, up to Virginia to recover the remains and bring them back to Georgia to the family cemetery in Macon County, Georgia. I hope you enjoy the story.

Bryan L. Carson is a former United States Marine who served honorably on three different tours to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom between 2003-2008. Bryan and his wife, Laura, currently live in Swansboro, North Carolina, where they like to relax at home with their eleven-year-old cocker spaniel, Brandy, and their three-year-old Labrador retriever, Jacob.
