I get my rifle reloaded just as the big grizzly breaks through the underbrush, spruce and aspen saplings not twenty feet in front of me. I throw the gun to my shoulder to fire. But, Pegasus starts bucking almost, as soon as, the rifle comes to my shoulder. Consequently, I get a shot off but, its a dead miss; because, both me and the rifle are flying through the air. I hit the ground hard, I lay all sprawled out. The next thing I feel is the bears hot breath. The rifle is ten feet away it might as well be ten miles and I couldnt reload fast enough anyway.
Marvin Scott Parvino goes by Scott; because there are four generations of Marvin's in his family. Parvino considers himself a Texan although he was born on Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. He comes from three generations of military in his immediate family which also includes a brother and a sister-in-law. He and his family are very proud to be from East Texas.
During 12 years in the United States Navy or Texas Army National Guard he has been in 49 states and overseas many times. While serving in the Navy was on the 3rd, 6th & 7th fleets. When Scott left the military in 1994 he went to college and received a Master of Science degree in Animal Science from Texas Tech University; a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science From Louisiana Tech University.
Scott was involved in an automobile accident while working on his master's degree that left him partially disabled due to a brain injury. He could not find work in related fields because of his disability. Employers were not eager to take-on what they called “a liability issue”. So one day he put his thoughts down on his computer and we will experience his love for animals through this saga.
Although Scott has always loved history and the American West he chose to tell a story based on his knowledge and research. Parvino stated: “For every person or detail that is listed in history, how many people do we know absolutely nothing about? This book is to tell the story of those who were forgotten.”
Before his accident Scott wrote poetry and oil painted beautiful landscapes and western skies. He has a very keen eye for detail as you will discover. We look forward to the adventure that follows.
