As an author, her voice is used to provide young readers with knowledge of past experiences and struggles of the African-American family, therefore igniting their curiosity to explore the cultural accomplishments over the past fifty years. The author received her bachelor’s degree in math education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (1973), a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Nova Southeastern University (1976), and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University (2001). She distinguishes herself as an educator for the past twenty years, an administrator for the past sixteen years, a mentor, and an author. She was selected as teacher of the year in 1995 at Dorothy Wallace Cope Center South, a school for teenage parents, in Miami-Dade County Public School System.
She received the Superintendent Urban Initiative Award at the district level to mentor beginning principals (2008). She participated in the Harvard Summer Institute for principals in educational leadership (2007). As principal serving underprivileged students in an Urban School District, she participated in the I Have a Dream Foundation, which provided academic and extracurricular experiences for students from elementary to senior high school. Also, the foundation provided scholarships to graduating seniors to assist them with their postsecondary education. Currently as an administrator, she continues to mentor and help students from all walks of life.
