The amazing true story of America's most famed lost gold mines and epitome of Western traditions, this book tells the tale about the Lost Dutchman gold mine in the Superstition Mountains in Arizona during the late 1930s and 1940s.Based on author Barry Storm's travels over the mountains in search for lost Spanish treasures, this book was the inspiration behind Lust for Gold, a 1949 American western film about the legendary Lost Dutchman, starring Glenn Ford.Contains lots of on-the-spot work in the mountains reading treasure signs, trail markers, maps and great photographs.
Autoren-Porträt von Barry Storm
Barry Storm (born John Griffith Climenson, June 4, 1910 - May 18, 1971) was one of the seminal chroniclers of the Lost Dutchman legend. One of the first writers on the subject to actually go out and explore the regions he wrote about, his colorful books and stories have entertained masses of treasure hunters and would-be adventurers for many years.Born in Seattle, Washington, Barry Storm moved to Arizona in the 1930s, working in odd jobs and as a part time reporter. He explored the deserts around Phoenix, Arizona, and was particularly interested in the Superstition Mountains, where he went on trips with Barry Goldwater, also a keen hiker and photographer of the deserts. Goldwater would later publish Storm's first book, Trail of the Lost Dutchman, in 1939. From 1943-1944, Storm served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, but in his spare time continued to refine his thoughts and his research on the mining activity that had taken place in the Superstition Mountains. In 1945 he published his most important book, Thunder Gods Gold.
Barry Storm died at the Long Beach VA hospital in 1971 and is buried at the Los Angeles National Cemetery.
