The nations of Island World spiral to war.

Arii's triumph over Gwaum did not bring the hoped for peace. Vying for domination, each of the five nations strove to rise to the top. War between wizard factions also loomed on the horizon.

The Kingdom of Torne was the dominant kingdom. Ruther ruled the land but did not possess the Star of Torne, thus he was not the true king. His mother, Queen Betsa possessed the Star. His sister Rynn was the true heir as the Star had chosen her. Ruther pursued the two in an attempt to wrest the Star, and the legitimacy it conferred, from them.

Other rulers sought the Queen and Princess to use them to dominate Torne and thus Island World.

The warring kingdoms collided at Naru. The battle for that city determined the fate of Island World. The wizard Beymon used his strongest magic spells in an attempt to save the city. His magical powers strained, he could not be sure of success.

The wizard Beymon understood the true danger. If any kingdom ruled over all, they would in turn challenge the still weak kingdom of Acerland, endangering the Covenant.

Beymon also knew that another conflict threatened. The wizard Paarth threatened the Grand Council and a full wizard war threatened to erupt. This was the danger he had to avert. Somehow.
