This is a satirical work which centers around a group of criminals' conspiracy to plunder wealth. The story took place in 1891.The Italian faker Protos, who disguised himself as a priest and a philosopher, easily convinced the Countess of Saint-Perigny that the Roman Catholic Pope had been kidnapped for three years in the Vatican cellars. And the man who sat in the Pope's position was a fake guy looking like the Pope elected by a few Masonic members. By his deceit, in the name of establishing Crusaders and saving the Pope, the countess wrote the check.The check was later handed over to her friend, whose husband was Amede Florisuwall. As a devout Christian, Amede inquired about the message in an attempt to rescue the Pope. After a series of noisy unfortunate experience, he accidentally met Lafcadio, a handsome young man on the train from Rome to Naples. Lafcadio pushed Amede off the train without any motive. Amede was killed, while Lafcadio became a hero of "e;motiveless behavior"e;. This new clown and criminal Lafcadio was a nineteen-year-old adventurer and illegitimate child. His aristocrat father offered him living expenses but refused to admit him. This kind of free and no restriction life made him a man confounding right and wrong. His debauchery was proportional to his vitality, and he always let the opportunity decide his action. He was the embodiment of motiveless behavior.
