Weeks could go by without planes as even the most skilled bush pilots were dependant on weather and ice conditions to land.The author's experience was not without times of frustration and sadness but she was resilient and resourceful in dealing with medical demands, emergencies and severe weather conditions.Through her letters home which are sprinkled with interesting and entertaining anecdotes, often leaving the reader in suspense, we gain a fascinating insight into life in the Arctic during the 60s and 70s.
