Sometimes You Have To Try Anyway
Cage Washington knew the political campaign for Portland's first African American city commissioner was likely to fail. It didn't matter. He had to do what he could to help her get re-elected. He knew the police union had it in for her. He knew they'd already set her up once.
But he had no idea how far they'd go.
Not that it mattered. Sometimes, you had to take a stand anyway.
And it's not just Cage who is under fire. The suburban bureaus of the Oregonian are supposed to be a safe place to learn a reporter's craft. But Emily Petersen also finds herself on the frontlines as she struggles to cover the politics of school book bans.
Two people under fire. A new marriage, a baby on the way. Life in downtown Portland isn't for the faint-hearted.
Book 7 in Newsroom PDX, year 3. A political thriller series set in Porttland, Oregon. Foul language, some sex, lot's of politics - Portland weird.
"I write about religion and politics. About race and gender. I believe in the journalism axiom: Comfort the afflicted, and afflict the comfortable. To which the labor organizer Mother Jones was supposed to have added: And in general raise hell. That works for me."
L.J. grew up on a cattle ranch and then went to college to be an oceanographer. She decided getting seasick was not a good trait for an oceanographer to have, and discovered journalism instead a field that liked people who asked questions!
As a reporter and editor, she worked in Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Texas, Washington, D. C. Then she got homesick for the Pacific Northwest and came home to work with college newspapers and teach journalism.
She is an over-educated, bleeding heart liberal with a penchant for heroes such as Jack Reacher. She isn't particularly bothered by the inconsistency.
