You Are the Best Thing That Happen to Me (ePub)

My name is Alexander Raffaello Wilson Sr., born on the island of Aruba, the Netherlands Antilles. Aruba is a nineteen mile-long (thirty kilometers) island of the Lesser Antilles in the Southern Caribbean Sea. It is mere fifteen miles (twenty-four kilometers) from the coast of Venezuela.


Together with Bonaire and Curacao, it forms a group referred to as the ABC Islands of the Leeward Antilles, the southern island chain of the Lesser Antilles. I grew up in a community surrounded by a diverse mix of cultures: Afro-Latino, Afro-Caribbean, Dutch, Portuguese and American and South American.


Being around such a rich mix of people, cultures and ethnic groups , most definitely helped shape and influenced my writing style. I am fluent in English, Spanish and German.


I lived on the island of St. Croix, the US Virgin Islands, spent some time on the island of Puerto Rico, then moved to the United States, and in 1978, I joined the US ARMY. During my military duties: I traveled to Germany, The Netherlands, and France. I lived in Germany for a period of ten years then returned in the United States in 1990.


Today I reside in Los Angeles, California. I attended the California State University of Los Angeles. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science. Years later, I graduated with a Masters in HealthCare Administration from Walden University. I am also an avid runner: I ran Four Marathons; three times the Los Angeles Marathon, and one time in Germany.


The birth of my poetry writing got started about ten years ago. As I was sitting at the ocean front in Santa Monica Beach, Los Angeles, California. I was counting the number of waves that flowed in such a peaceful formation, one after the other. There were many, and each wave was formed with its own style and uniqueness.
