Teachers are called nation builders in every country and in every society. The role of teachers is of great importance. It is left to the teachers to inculcate personality characteristics, right values - the values of good citizenship producing law abiding and nation loving citizens.India has made considerable progress in school education since independence with reference to overall literacy, infrastructure and universal access and enrolment in schools. Two major developments in the recent years form the background to the present reform in teacher education - the political recognition of Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE) as a legitimate demand and the state commitment towards UEE in the form of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. The country has to address the need of supplying well qualified and professionally trained teachers in larger numbers in the coming years. At the same time, the demand for quality secondary education is steadily increasing. It is recommended that the aim should be to reach universal secondary education within a maximum of ten years. Given the problems of inadequate quality in most secondary schools due to poor infrastructure and insufficient and poorly equipped teachers, the need for addressing the professional education of secondary teachers acquires great importance.
The education of teachers should be such that teachers should set an example and provide for their pupils the ideal of the citizens who is conformist, conservative and cautions. As for their moral character, righteousness, wisdom, honesty are among the adjectives which might be ascribed to them. Teachers should assist the students in their physical, intellectual, religious, social, emotional, spiritual development in the well balanced and harmonious manner and imbue them with human values, which is why teacher education today is an integral part of any educational system.
In this study, personality traits of teachers will be

Text sample:Chapter 3: METHODOLOGY AND PROCEDURE:
[...] CONVERTING RAW SCORES TO STEN SCORES:
General the meaning of raw scores from any form or combination of forms of1 6PF depends, of course, upon the particular forms used. Consequently, before these raw scores can be evaluated and interpreted, they must be converted into a system that places the examinee's score in relation to scores obtained by other people in some defined population (normal adults, college students, adult males only, etc.)The standardization tables convert raw scores to what are called stens, a practice consistent with best modem usage, aiming at a good, but not unrealistically refined degree of accuracy in expression of results.
Standard Scores: Sten scores (the term comes from "Standard ten") are distributed over 10 equal-interval standard score points (assuming normal distribution) from 1 through 10. The population average (or mean) for a sten distribution is fixed at 5.5 and the standard deviation is 2.0 sten scores. The exact limits of sten and 6 (4.5 - 6.5) extend, respectively, a half standard deviation below and above the mean, constituting the solid centre of the population, while the outer limits for stens 1 and 10 are 2 ¹/_ standard deviations below and above the mean. One would normally consider sten scores of 4 through 7 to be average. Since they fall within one standard deviation of the population mean and therefore represent approximately two- thirds of all the obtained scores. Sten scores of 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9,10 are generally considered to be of greater importance for profile interpretation since they are more extreme and occur far less frequently in a normal population.
3.2.3 N.Y. Reddy's Indian Adaptation Value Scale: (Appendix III):
A well known scale on values called 'Study of Values' constructed by G.W. Allport, P.E. Vernon and G. Lindzey (1960). "This scale measures one relative prominence of six basic interests or motives in personality, theoretical, economic,

aesthetic, social, political and religious. The classification is based directly upon Eduard Spranger's "Types of Men",(1928) a brilliant work depends the view that the personalities of men are best known through a study of values or evaluative attitudes".
The "Study of Values" scale is in the form of a questionnaire which continues to be the most used instrument in educational research as both graduate students and professional agencies continue to rely it".
Eduard Spranger's 'Types of Men' are expected to be differentiated by this scale. The present study has used the Indian adaptation of the scale by N.Y Reddy (1980).
Now a brief description of the basic values will be given below:
1) The Theoretical:
A man with the dominant theoretical value is interested in the discovery of truth. He takes a cognitive attitude which means that he must be in a position to differentiation the beauty or utility of objects and seeks only to observe and to reason. His interests are empirical, critical and rational; he is necessarily an intellectualist, frequently a scientist or a philosopher. His chief am of life is to order and systematize knowledge.
2) The Economic:
The economic man is characteristically interested in what is useful. In the ideal economic man the investigator has to identify the practical affairs of the business world-the production, marketing and consumption of goods: the elaboration of credit and the accumulation of the tangible wealth. This type is thoroughly practical and conforms well to the prevailing conception of the average Marwari business-man.
The economic attitude frequently comes into the conflict with other values. The economic men want education to be practical and unapplied, knowledge as a waste. Great feats of engineering and application results from the demands that economic men make upon science. The values of utility likewise conflicts with the aesthetic values, except when art serves and commercial ends. In his personal life he is likely t
