Combustion Ash and Residue Management gives engineers in both Coal-Fired and Waste-to-Energy Plants the information they need to use the residues from the combustion process for beneficial purposes, or dispose of it safely. This unique book is an essential reference for anybody responsible for disposal and/or utilization of combustion residues. It reflects over thirty years of engineering practice, applying the principles of concrete chemistry and Civil Engineering/Soil Mechanics as confirmed by field data. Dr. Richard Goodwin assesses the composition and environmental impact of combustion residues, and provides not only best practice guidelines for safe disposal, but also a blueprint for effective reuse.
Case studies are provided to discuss options for ash disposal, in addition to the lessons learned by high profile failures, such as the TVA Kingston Fossil Plant coal fly ash slurry spill in 2008. The book applies engineering principles to discuss how to avoid future upsets, such as through better operator training and surveillance monitoring methods.
Options for reuse of combustion ash include use as a structural fill, grout and capping material. Examples and cost information are also included.
